First day of class

Here are some reflections about the first day of ABED6107 class. Since ABED6107 is primarily an online course, the first class meeting is to help students understand expectations of the class as well as technical issues.

Two main objectives for this class were: 1) to help students get to know each other so groups for the final project be formed; and, 2) get students familar with creating a basic web page.

The web page creator software (SeaMonkey) and file transfer program (WinSCP) were used and the demonstration and exercise went well. What other topics should have been covered in Day 1?

I look forward to your thoughts on this (as you learn how to interact with blogs - Week 3 assignment)

I thought the first day of class was a major success. After your introduction into the course and its expectations, you opted to answer any questions regarding researching articles. Well done!

You explained everything, in detail, I was unsure about.

I agree with everyone. The first day of class was very helpful. The explanation and review of seamonkey was most helpful.

The first class day was good for learning about the course and the technology tools used. I don't think we met the objective to form project teams and understand our team members. Perhaps there were too many people in the class to have time for mingling.

I am having a great time in this course and the teacher is doing a good job!

The seamonkey presentation had a thumb drive hiccup but other then that the course objective seemed well laid out. I feel that at least for some students the amount of research involved and required for the course wasn't discovered till after the class met.

I thought the first class was informative regarding what would be required. We were unable to review seamonkey but it is not a difficult software. A review of WinSCP would also be helpful. Thanks for being willing to provide explanations.

The course is challenging for me. I have never created a webpage, blogged, or done anything remotely similar to the things we are doing in class. I anticipate a great deal of learning on my part and have enjoyed the class thus far. Thanks.

I believe that we may have needed a bit more time explaining how to insert pictures. On one hand, I recognize that we are supposed to be learning together as a group, but on the other hand, I know that many people struggled with this concept more than any other concept in the first assignment.

I enjoy the collaboration with my fellow students. I feel like I am communicating more than I would have if I was attending class.

We are almost to the end of the semester and I felt like I had to come back to this early (optional) assignment and leave a post. Being new to Web 2.0 technology as well as to online course content, I think that I would have benefited with 3 pieces of information that in hindsight, I know to be true. 1) Responding to other student's posts was difficult at first. I think that knowing what the protocol for responding to posts about your posts would have been nice. Also, knowing that 99% of the feedback that you receive is positive would have made me less worried. 2) I wish that I had known that I COULD DO THIS! And more importantly, that it would be FUN!! 3) And lastly, I wish that I had known that you would be there every step of the way to give guidance, support, and feedback. I did enjoy the first day of class and would not delete any part of what we covered as it was all very useful. THANKS!

Blogs are very useful for the classroom. This is my first blog post here. Love the layout but wondering on the circles in the frot that may affect readability for those with vision problems and the contrast as well. Do we have to take these aesthetics into consideration when designing our blogs?.

The first class was very helpful. I understand it is an online class, but I think having one class meeting a month would also be helpful. It would allow us to ask questions about issues we may have encountered while working on our project and also hear other groups questions and issues they my be having.

The first day of class was quite useful and worth the ride. All online classes should at least have a synchronized whiteboard meeting. This allows students and professors to get to know one another and get a better understanding of what's expected.

The first day of class was very informative. I understand better what to expect thorough out the remaining of the semester. Online courses should meet at least once at the beginning of the course

The first day of class was very beneficial. I'm glad that I eventually found our meeting room! I feel better going into this semester after meeting face-to-face.

I thought the first day of class was very helpful. First it was great to actually get to meet everyone face-to-face and second it was very beneficial to know what to expect throughout the course. It was also very helpful having the review of seamonkey as this was software I had never used before and I would have found it a lot more difficult had I been trying to figure it out myself at home.
